The climate crisis has been in the news recently, not least this summer with record world temperatures as well as catastrophic flooding both abroad and here in the UK.
At Aycliffe Radio, your local community radio station broadcasting to the area on DAB as well as the internet for smart speakers etc. (just ask your smart speaker to ‘Play Aycliffe Radio’), we are connecting with over sixty other community-based radio stations throughout the UK for a brand-new initiative called ‘Our Earth Week’.
The initiative runs from 20th to 26th November.
In another first, Aycliffe Radio is joining with another local community-based radio station in our area, Bishop FM, for some joint content for the week.
Our Earth Week will shine the spotlight on the climate crisis, celebrating life on earth in the run up to the COP28 talks in the United Arab Emirates. It’s an exciting initiative and is the first time ever that community stations from all over the UK have come together in this way.
It’s not all doom and gloom – far from it, we are going to talk a lot about the positive and inspiring things people in South West Durham, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Darlington, and elsewhere in the UK, are doing to help each other through this climate crisis.
The conversations in ‘Our Earth Week’ will be about local communities and projects, they will be uploaded for broadcast on all of the radio stations involved. As you will appreciate, there are going to be lots of interviews shared, so to be part of this will be fantastic to inform a wide audience of local projects and share them over the whole country.
Both Aycliffe Radio and Bishop FM believe that what we are doing as individuals should be shared with others so that they get inspiration from these ideas and formulate their own opinions and are more able to help our collective effort to reverse climate change and make our earth a better place to live for all communities, for the generations to come.
