Dear Sir,

Whilst the national parties have agreed to suspend electioneering until the funeral of Prince Philip, our locals are hard at it with a bun fight in the Newton News and stuffing their election info through our doors.

One current sitting councillor wants the number of Councillors reduced and our taxes brought down to the level of Crook, Consett and Chester-le-Street who appear to be governed by DCC direct. If they have no local council, I presume they have no local Councillors, just the county ones. Were we to opt to be controlled by DCC, our current sitting Councillor would achieve his objective. No local council, and no local Councillors, thus a saving there and hopefully the same council tax as those other towns.

Is this the way to go?

Peter Hardy
