The National Railway Museum at Shildon
Saturday August 6th and Sunday August 7, 2016
See model planes, trains, automobiles and more at Model Mania, the popular annual modelling event at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon.
This year’s event takes place on Saturday August 6 and Sunday August 7, and will feature a dazzling array of models from clubs and individuals across the region.
Exhibitors for this year’s event include Newton Aycliffe Model Flying Club; Durham Model Truck Club; Roker Park Model Boat Club; Shildon Model Railway Club; and Darlington Scale Modellers. They’ll be joined by the North Eastern Meccano Society; Film & TV Model Club; Coniscliffe Carving Club; the OO Live Steam Club; IPMS Langley Moor; and IPMS Cleveland.
Visitors will be able to marvel at the models on display, watch demonstrations and pick up tips to try out at home. There will also be a wide range of trade stands offering all you need to enjoy your modelling hobby, along with stands selling railway items, books and more.
Enjoy a ride on the miniature steam train provided by South Durham Model Engineers, or on the museum’s steam train service hauled by Peckett No. 2012 Teddy, visiting from the Chasewater Railway and one of the smallest standard gauge locomotives ever built.
Historic model Orion, which belongs to the Stephenson Locomotive Society, will also be in steam at the event.
Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon is open from 10am to 5pm daily. Parking and admission are free of charge. Please note that there is a charge for steam train rides.
