Riding a penny-farthing, pedal powering a scalextric set and a mini-gym for kids are all part of a healthy, fun packed family festival in Shildon on 10th August.

The Local Motion MEGA Summer Festival takes place between 10.30am and 4.00pm in Hackworth Park and will feature rides, information stalls, demonstrations and activities for everyone to try. The event, organised by the Pioneering Care Partnership and funded by Durham County Council and Shildon Town Council, aims to promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles and green transport choices to those living in the Shildon, Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe area.

As well as performances by dance troupes and fitness demonstrations by local gym members there’s plenty for people to get involved in. Festival goers will be able to tackle a climbing wall, play with model trains and try out a range of bicycles. A host of information stalls will be there to give people advice on everything health and fitness related and there’ll also be cooking demonstrations throughout the day.

There’s truly something for everyone with face painting, Meccano, Nordic walks, bicycle maintenance and even a magician as well as coffee and food stalls to keep everyone’s energy levels up.
