Newton Aycliffe RSPB Wildlife Explorers are again hosting their successful “BBQ on The Park” at Aycliffe Nature Park (near the Blue Bridge) on Sunday 18th August from 4 pm. Everybody will be made welcome as usual and you can bring along a picnic if you wish.

It will be an informal event where you can ask questions about the Nature Park, Wildlife Explorers or anything else that interests you about our activities. We request that children are accompanied by a responsible adult. After the BBQ, there will be a moth trapping event starting at about 8 pm. Our last two meetings have been “wash outs”. In June, rain fell so hard that we could not find anything on the Park, let alone the butterflies we were looking for.

Our July meeting looked like it was going to be the same up until the start of the meeting, and then the sun came out gloriously, making it a perfect day for butterflies, moths, damselflies, and dragonflies. Unfortunately, people had been put off by the weather and did not turn up however the leaders were not deterred and enjoyed the afternoon anyway.

These poor turnouts have encouraged us to reassess our programme and will hopefully be holding more meetings at the Eco-Centre at Moore Lane, which will be on weekday evenings. Watch the Newton News for future dates.

Our next meeting at the Eco-Centre is on Sunday 29th September, when we will be talking about different homes and habitats for wildlife, and how we can help them.

We look forward to seeing all our old friends, and meeting new ones. See you there.

For any further information about our activities please contact Dave or Sue on 01325 317347.
