Dear Sir,
I popped in for a quick visit to Aycliffe Care Home last weekend to check out their jumble sale. Met some lovely staff and residents but wasn’t very lucky on the bottle draw. However, fantastic to see how well this event was supported by Newtonians happy to help a good cause. Sadly we had to cut the visit short to be at our next appointment which was Aycliffe Town versus Ashington, a football match at Moore Lane Sports Club.
What a wonderful welcome by Peter and his team. We were pretty cold when we were shown to our seats but we soon warmed up as the action held us spellbound. Half time found us with a welcome cup of tea and refreshments before the sporting battle recommenced.
Accompanied by our Town Clerk, Dan Austin, OakLeaf Manager, Andy Clark, Cllr Jim Atkinson (season ticket holder), Mayoress Elaine and our deputies Neville Jones and his lovely wife, Joanne, we settled down for an exciting second half. And what a second half it was with all the thrills and spills you would expect of an epic clash at this level.
Aycliffe 4 v Ashington 1 was the final score which really added to our enjoyment of the afternoon. Thanks for the invite and I reckon we will be back.
Cllr Ken Robson, Mayor Great Aycliffe.
