Chief Constable Mike Barton was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club meeting this week and he updated members on many topical policing issues.
His reputation as a down to earth cop was evident in his pragmatic approach to law and order. He gave his personal view on the controversial proposal to decriminalise drug taking, explaining the current approach was not working. When asked the question if he preferred a Police Commissioner to the former Police Authority he said we were very lucky to have Ron Hogg as a former Police Officer as Commissioner.
Ron’s experience was reflected in the way he operated and in addition to bringing greater efficiencies he does the job at half the cost!
