After many years of tirelessly organising the very successful Luncheon Club at Neville Parade Methodist Church, Liz Bates decided it was time for her to step down as she will soon be leaving Newton Aycliffe and the Church she has served so faithfully for many years. But not before ensuring the success of the Luncheon Club continued!
For a while it seemed the only option was for the Luncheon Club to close as no one was able to step into Liz’s shoes. It was a very difficult time – especially for the regular attendees who benefitted from the fabulous meals!
And then Liz placed a small advert/plea in the Newton News ‘on a wing and a prayer’ – and it was seen by Dave Lawson and his wife, Julia. Dave had been the Chef at The Grand Hotel in Tynemouth for ten years and then became resident Chef at Tees Valley Airport. He and Julia took on the job and have settled in really well! Each Tuesday Lunchtime at midday they and their small Team of helpers and servers provide a delicious and nutritious two course meal for anyone and everyone who is able to attend – all for just £3.00! Plans are in place to have a special Celebration Meal on the 26th June to commemorate the Queen’s 90th Birthday! Please ring Dave for more details.
The Luncheon Club has been run by Liz Bates and many other volunteers from Neville Parade Methodist Church over many years as a service to the people of Newton Aycliffe! Long may it continue in the safe oven-gloved-hands of Dave and Julia!
