Dear Sir,
I read with interest the letter from David Knight regarding the council’s lack of action on litter.
Whilst I agree more could be done, ie emptying bins more frequently, surely the problem should be dealt with at its root cause?
If we all took pride in our surroundings then there wouldn’t be litter to pick in the first place, whether this be by the council or the numerous, wonderful groups established to pick up after those who seem to think it’s someone else’s responsibility.
I, for one, do not want to see the council having to spend more money on this when there are numerous other priorities on an already tight budget – perhaps more enforcement on the law and imposing the £150 fine on litter dropping is a better way forward, and not criticism of a council which does try to make our town appealing (flower beds are a good example).
