Singer and guitarist Katie Smith has won the first ever Durham’s Got Talent competition!
The Chester-le-Street based performer came through over 200 auditions to form part of the final ten acts to make it on to the stage in the Gala Theatre. Her musical talent shone through with the judges crowning her the winner.
Katie has won £250 towards the development of her talent, while also scooping that all important winner’s trophy.
She said: “It was very nerve wracking when I was on stage but a great experience and I loved every second of it.”
The Riverdance of Wheatley Hill came second in the competition with Junior Acropolis, an acrobatics troupe from Gilesgate, coming third, scooping £100 and £50 respectively.
Gala Stage School put on a short performance of Miss Saigon while the judges deliberated their decision.
Durham Area Action Partnership funded the event, one of 14 set up by Durham County Council in 2009.
