Jazz Time Aycliffe Radio, Sundays
6.30-8.00 (Repeated Tuesdays 8.00-9.30)
Abbie FinnTrio: On the programme this Sunday, 15th January, (and subsequent Sundays), we will be featuring a track from the new album ‘On Pink Lane’ by the Abbie Finn Trio. The trio consists of Abbie Finn drums (an Aycliffe alumnus), Harry Keeble (sax), and Paul Grainger (Bass).
‘On Pink Lane’ is the 3rd album by the Abbie Finn Trio. This iconic street in Newcastle housed the old Jazz Café and the renowned jam session where the band first played together. This is their first album comprising of wholly original tunes.
Abbie writes: “I have composed brand new tunes for this album which focus on varied rhythmic concepts and include heavy improvisation. The album begins with ‘North Sea Wind’, which was the 1st single we released from the album. This explores the famed freezing cold waters which we are all familiar with here in the North-East. This is the title track of the album.”
The programme will also be remembering Martin Luther King Day 16th January. We will be recalling the contribution that Jazz had to the civil rights movement throughout the world.
