Last weekend’s Clearance Sale at Honest John’s Charity Shop raised an incredible £1827.00.

This money will be used to honour outstanding charges and commitments of John’s charity up to 31st March 2020. Any monies remaining will be donated to a local branch of the P.D.S.A. (People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals), as requested by John in his will.

This also abides by the rules of the Charity Commission that when a registered charity is closed, any remaining assets have to benefit another registered charity.

Val and Roger, John’s closest friends and trustees of John’s Charity, would like to thank everyone who supported the sale over the weekend by purchasing goods or making donations.

Special thank you to Paul Howarth of Newton Press and members of the Aycliffe Radio team of volunteers including Karen Bennett, Carrie Howarth, Amy Harrison, Phill Hawkins, Mary O’Sullivan, Joey Collins, Ed King and Rylee Harrison who all gave up their own time to support the final clearance sale.

The success of last weekend is yet another tribute to John’s outstanding contribution to charity.

Once the charity is closed a final report will be published in the Newton News.

Val and Roger would also like to thank everyone for their sincere messages, cards and support during this sad time.

John always shunned awards, medals or accolades, but we are sure even he would be secretly touched by everyone’s kindness.

John did not want a funeral or any fuss; but members of the Aycliffe Radio team will be organising an event to commemorate the life of this extraordinary man, watch the Newton News and listen to Aycliffe Radio for more details soon.

STOP PRESS

Since the sale ended on Sunday, members of the public have called into Newton Press offices to donate cash to John’s charity – a further £70 has been added to the total made at the sale weekend.
