Greenfield Community College students got involved with Shildon Alive’s Guerrilla Gardening project this week in Hackworth Park, Shildon.

A team of students from the Newton Aycliffe and Shildon campus used their time on a Right’s Respecting Day to make a positive impact on the park.

They dug over and prepared planters and raised beds near a new bear seating area in the park then planted winter flowers with the support of Shildon Alive and Shildon Town Council. The results of their hard work were amazing!

Mayor of Shildon, Shirley Quinn visited the students and thanked them for their hard work and chatted about the positive effect community volunteering can have for everyone involved.

Shirley was so impressed with the students efforts she popped back later with residents from the care home where she works so they could take a look at the new planting, chat with the students and enjoy the seating area.
