Dear Sir,

When I moved to Ashfield at the beginning of March the garden was an unloved area that had also been vandalised from when the house was empty. Myself, (Lucy Walker) and my partner (Gary Welford) were chatting one day and he asked me what I’d like for my birthday in April . . . I immediately responded with making the garden a nice space for us to enjoy.

Gary got straight to work in March and made my birthday request happen.

It has been an absolute life saver for me as I have a stressful job and working from home has been challenging. So, having my garden space to enjoy has been so helpful during such difficult times.

The garden now has decking, a pergola, a dog kennel, artificial grass, a new gravelled area, a fish pond and even a bar! Gary made all of these things from scratch.

The flowers are blooming now too and the solar lights look gorgeous on an evening. This calm and relaxing area has been the highlight of my lockdown and I love sitting in the garden with a glass of wine and a good book! It didn’t cost a fortune and I just wanted to share the work that Gary has done as I am incredibly proud and feel very grateful for having such a love my space to enjoy during lockdown. Think I’d have struggled a lot more without it!

Gary is a self employed gardener and handyman and I am so grateful for him taking the time out of his busy schedule to make the garden into something really special. He still wants to add to it and improve it further but so far I think he’s done an amazing job!

Lucy Walker
