Once again we saw the waste of a valuable resource and unnecessary disruption as the Euro Election closed schools so they can be used as Polling Stations. It is unbelievable a whole school should be closed for an event which only attracts a minority to vote.
There are alternatives including the use of a community centre, club premises or even a bus shelter for the number who bother to vote. If they must use a school why not use a single classroom or the hall for the period, and do we need four personnel overseeing the voting?
Is it not time to review the situation and save the inconvenience and loss of earnings to working parents and cut the high cost of running an election?
The Saga surrounding our Market was featured on BBC Television this week and centred more on the landlord’s Freshwater, kicking the traders out of the town centre, ignoring the fact that our Town Council is working hard to secure an alternative site next to the Cubby where a derelict piece of land owned by the County Council has laid ugly and unused for 28 years.
Freshwater’s refusal to comment was noticeable and further demonstrates the arrogance of this London property company.
