Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team, sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training recorded their first league win of the season beating Hunwick by 38 runs in the first division of the North East Durham League.

Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first scoring a below par 133 all out after 39.1 overs with Luke Telford and Carl Little both jointly top scoring with 26 runs and Sam Telford chipping in with 23. In reply Hunwick looked to be comfortably batting their way to victory, but the introduction of debutant Dan Craggs had an immediate and dramatic impact on the game.

The 20 year old bowled with genuine pace and hostility to destroy the visitors batting, taking 7 wickets in 27 balls to help bowl out Hunwick for just 95 runs after 29.1 overs.

The next day the first team made it through to the final of the Fenwick cup after a hard fought 11 run win away at Barningham. Aycliffe scored 102 for 9 in their 20 overs with Ross Dixon top scoring with a quickfire 30, but a superb spell of 6 for 34 with the ball from Carl Little helped to restrict the homeside to 91 for 7 in their reply.

The second team made the long trip to Medomsley for their third division match and were beaten by 57 runs. The home side batted first and were restricted to just 107 for 3 in their 40 overs thanks to excellent 10 over spells from both Dan Weldon, who finished with the superb figures of 2 for 14 and Tom Gledhill, who took 1 for 35.

In reply Aycliffe batted poorly, with only Dan Weldon (15 runs) reaching double figures as they were bowled out for only 50 after 33.4 overs.

The under 11’s team had a hugely impressive 47 run win away at Billingham Synthonia thanks to good performances from Nathan Parry and C Morley, who shared a 20 run partnership and another excellent 3 wicket haul from bowler Ali Abbasi.
