Newton Aycliffe and Heighington  Juniors will be putting on their boots following a £5,000 Grow the Game grant, from the Football Foundation.

The grant will allow Cumby Rovers JFC to increase the number of teams and the number of children participating in club activities. The new teams will be for the Under-8 age group, for both male and female players. In addition, four new coaches will be trained to at least FA Leve11, and one will be trained as a specialist goalkeeping coach.

The core objective enables more people to play our national game and the programme is delivered in partnership with all of the 46 County FA’s and funded by The FA and Government.

The Football Foundation is the country’s largest sports charity, launched in 2000 and funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England). It has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.

Bernard Nicholson, Club Secretary at Cumby Rovers, said: “Thanks to the Football Foundation, the club now have the opportunity to expand its age groups and coaching staff and offer the chance to young players to play football and develop their skills with FA qualified coaches.”
