Shoppers in Tesco last Saturday would have noticed the town’s Rotary Club collecting for the people of the Philippines who are suffering so badly from a devastating typhoon.
Rotary International supports Shelterbox a scheme providing tents and all the supplies people would need to survive including sleeping bags cooking stove and utensils, tools, water purifying tablets etc.
The money raised at Tesco was almost £1,500 and will be used for this purpose. President Geoff Batchelor thanks all those who supported the appeal with special thanks to the Manager Martin Butcher and staff of Tesco for their co-operation.
“As usual Newtonians gave generously, and there were many £5, £10 and £20 notes in the collection bucket and one person made out a cheque for £100.” said Geoff gratefully.
