Baltic Apprenticeships’ new employer referral scheme was set up to give something back to their advocates, and to support the local communities they work within. Since launching the scheme in July, four apprentices have started their careers as a direct result, raising £1000 for charity.
The scheme works in collaboration with clients who recommend the apprenticeship training provider to others within their network. When an employer submits a business referral, they can select a charity that they would like to support. Upon the successful placement of an apprentice, Baltic then donates £250 to the chosen charity. So far, funds have been donated to Cancer Research, Tiny Lives, St Oswald’s Hospice and the RSPCA.
As well as raising money for these fantastic causes, referrals are helping to create apprenticeship opportunities that change the lives of young people across the country. David Brooke, Head of IT at The Consortium Trust, explains this impact:
“It’s a great scheme on the back of the apprenticeship placements. Not only are we supporting the individual person to gain the skills and qualifications required within their chosen profession, the referral scheme goes the extra mile to help provide support to charity organisations who require financial support to be able to provide the key services they offer.”
Another employer who has made a successful referral is Gateshead based ITPS. Their Commercial Director, George Galloway, had this to say about their part in the referral scheme:
“Our experience with Baltic Apprenticeships has been excellent and we have recruited some loyal employees based on this approach. I feel this is a great way of rewarding charities on the back of our company’s continued successful growth.”
Apprentices add value to the businesses they work at, so it’s an effective way for employers to support the success and growth of other organisations in their network. Andrew Renton from Aspire Technology Solutions, also based in Gateshead, shared his thoughts on the referral scheme:
“We currently employ 5 apprentices, all of which are on track to complete their qualifications and become great engineers. The referral scheme is great; it’s refreshing to see the reward go somewhere useful.”
