Woodham Academy student and Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club swimmer Emma Price, 14, has continued to gain success. Her hard work and dedication has paid off as she recently qualified for 6 separate events at the British Summer National Championships with amazing results. She came 5th in the 200m Freestyle, 4th 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle. Emma also qualified for the 100m Butterfly, 200m and 400m Individual Medley. Her talent has resulted in her being selected to represent Northumberland and Durham at the British Championships. Emma competed in the 4x200m Freestyle and 4×100 Freestyle with her team securing Gold and placing 5th in the 4×200 Freestyle. Emma has had even more success with her relay team as they came 3rd Nationally out of 37 counties.
Emma also qualified and swam at the English Summer National Championships and won a Gold in 100m Freestyle.
Emma’s success at the British Summer National Championships has resulted in her being selected for a new national training programme called the ‘Distance Initiative’, which has been instigated by British Swimming following the Toyko Olympic Games. This programme involves Emma having to increase her training hours from 10.5 to 16 hours a week, which are delivered by her Head Coach, John Moore at Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club. Emma will also have to attend day camps with other swimmers on the programme.
The extra training has had a huge positive impact on Emma’s results. At the North East and Regionals, she swam in the Open Youth category which is for 16 years and under; however, Emma is only 14. Emma is currently ranked 2nd in the country for 800m Freestyle (at her age group).
Woodham Academy’s PE department wishes Emma all the best in her upcoming competitions and future swimming career.
