Staff and gym members from the Eden Arms Hotel, Rushyford caught the peddling bug from the success of this year’s ‘Tour de France’ winner and London 2012 time trial gold winner Bradley Wiggins and set about raising money for their local children’s charity Butterwick House Children’s Hospice with a 24hr Peddlethon.
The event in August in the hotel leisure club where staff members Peter Sisson, Neil Birbeck, Nicola Gardner, Joanne Collins and Terri Carr-Wood along with gym members took turns to peddle on the cycles for an amazing 24 hours.
Terri Carr-Wood, Events Co-ordinator said “having two young boys supporting a children’s charity was close to my heart and everyone at the hotel decided that our charity for the year would be Butterwick Children’s Hospice.
We wanted to set ourselves a real challenge to raise money from our first big event and were pleased that our leisure club members wanted to take part.” Although it was tough going everyone was up for it and were thrilled to raise £700.
Butterwick House Children’s Hospice looks after children from 0-19 years of age all of whom have a life limiting illness. Children and their families come from Durham, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire area for day care, respite care and end of life care.
Whatever stage of their life limited illness staff concentrate on pain relief and symptom control as well as making sure young patients have as much fun as they can. Thank you to everyone who helped raise such an amazing amount of money and we look forward to your support in the future.
