Newton Aycliffe Youth U8 Eagles travelled to Blackpool for the annual football tournament. The boys were dealt a cruel blow a few days before when Brandon broke his arm and was unable to travel.
The weekend was seen as a team bonding exercise with some football on the side. The boys enjoyed time together playing in the games room and time on the beach, especially Riley.
The boys were handed a really tough group but raised their performance and produced some excellent football at times. We entered the plate and won a nail biting penalty shoot out to qualify for the quarter finals. We played a team who had beaten us 1-0 in the group stages, but we were up for this game and created a host of chances, one of which Krystian smashed home. The 2nd half was an even game, Stranton managed a scrappy equaliser and again the dreaded penalty shoot out. Unfortunately this time the boys missed out on a spot in the semi-finals, even with some heroic saves from Carter in goal. All the boys played their part this weekend and their behaviour was impeccable.
Carter, Nathan, Krystian, Dylan, Zack, Evan, Daniel, Riley, Jayden, James, you boys have been awesome this weekend and I am super proud of each and every one of you.
