Family historians are being invited to discover their Scottish roots at Durham County Record Office.

The sessions, part of the service’s Branching Out series, are aimed at anyone who already has basic knowledge of tracing family history and is ready to move on to the next level.

Dawn Layland, Durham County Council’s education and outreach archivist, said: “We regularly run family history sessions at our record office and participants have told us that they would like to learn some more advanced skills.

“These sessions have been set up following that feedback and we will be looking at how to trace Scottish ancestors, including how sources such as the census and parish registers differ in Scotland and which you can find out online.”

The Branching Out sessions run on Thursday 12 April from 10am to noon and Monday 16 April, from 6pm to 8pm.

Sessions cost £10 per person. Booking is essential, with places available by calling 03000 267 626.
