New swimming sessions are making a splash with disabled children, young people and their families. Splashability is a new pilot scheme beginning in County Durham which will focus on promoting more accessible swimming sessions, starting in July.

It will be based at three leisure centres and will initially run for six months. If successful it will then become part of the swimming programme across the county in all leisure centres with a pool.

Splashability will run at Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre on Saturdays between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, at Freeman’s Quay Leisure Centre on Saturdays between 6.00pm and 7.00pm and Spennymoor Leisure Centre between 4.00pm and 5.00pm on Sundays.

It’s £2.50 for disabled youngsters and their carers are free upon presentation of a Durham and Darlington Carers Card.
