Dear Sir,
I do not understand the reference on the Great Aycliffe Website regarding the Eldon Whins Petition that the “Residents of the new housing will utilise the services within Great Aycliffe”. The essential Services (Gas & Electricity, Lighting, Water, Sewerage, Roads, the NHS, and the Emergency Services) are NOT the responsibility of Great Aycliffe.
I, in common with many Middridge Residents, happily use these essential services, many of which are based in Great Aycliffe, as well as shopping and banking, but this does not make me feel that I am thus somehow a resident of Great Aycliffe!
I believe the real reason for this battle is that Great Aycliffe are after the potential “Spoils of War” i.e. the money from the Community Infrastructure Levy for the proposed new Housing.
It seems sad that, after many years as good neighbours, that Middridge ‘David’ now has to fight the Great Aycliffe ‘Goliath’ for such a dubious reason. I’m not quite sure this is what the Government intended Localism to mean!
