Maureen Richardson, age 69, was looking for some new activities to keep her fit and active after sadly losing her husband in October last year. “I have always been very active and when I had to care for my husband Tony, I was always on the go, up and down the stairs looking after him, hospital appointments, etc. When he passed I found myself gradually putting weight on and I pushed myself to get out there and do something about it. I found that CrossFit All Out were offering new sessions for ages 50+ in Newton Aycliffe and decided to give it a go. That was back in January and I now love my weekly session. It’s definitely hard work, but you must push yourself and I love it. The Coaches have shown me exercises to do at home during the week between classes and I go out for regular walks with my daughter Julie too. I can feel myself getting fitter.”

Coaches Dan Boulton who launched the classes with fellow CrossFit Coach Allen McGee, said “Maureen has gradually lost a healthy 8lb in bodyweight and after recent tests with her GP, is pleased to have had her blood pressure improved greatly, cholesterol levels reduced, as well and blood tests and water tests all clear. At this age there is so much more value than simply being fit – the health benefits as a whole are significant to leading a more able, fulfilling life and Maureen wholeheartedly values that. The group are all very positive and supportive of each other, it’s great to see them working hard every week.”

Maureen added “I do sometimes find it difficult to remember all of the movements, but the Coaches are lovely and other members are really helpful too. I’m at a stage in my life where I can make some time for myself and I really enjoy my weekly sessions at the gym. I’d recommend anyone looking for something different, to come along and have a go.”
