Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training took another step towards securing the NYSD 3rd division title at their first attempt when they easily defeated Darlington RA away by 8 wickets.
The homeside elected to bat first and were blown away by an excellent spell of fast bowling from Sean Morgan, who finished with the creditable figures of 5 for 35 from his lengthy 15 over spell. Left arm spinner uke Telford chipped in 3 for 20 as the home side were bowled out for just 82 after 33.4 overs.
Aycliffe coasted to victory after 15.5 overs thanks to a hard hitting unbeaten 48 from opener Sam Telford and 21 runs from his cousin Luke Telford. The scene is now set for the final game of the season when we host Bishop Auckland and a win for Aycliffe would give our first team the 3rd divison title in their first season in the NYSD league.
The second team match away at Maltby 3rd team was abandoned as a draw after 11 overs due to heavy rain, but not before fast bowler Danny Weldon secured Aycliffe a bonus point with two wickets for 16 runs from his lively six over spell.
The club’s annual presentation night for the under 11’s, under 13’s and u15’s saw a good turn out as a number of awards were handed out to the young cricketers.
Amongst the trophies awarded were the under 11’s “Player of the Year” to Lucas Pilling and 12 year old Adam Lamb, uniquely picked up the player of the year trophy for both the under 13’s and under 15’s teams.
