On Friday 28th September Year 5 from Aycliffe Village Primary School hosted a coffee morning to raise money for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support. All children from the school helped by bringing in lots of delicious cakes. There were cakes of all shapes and sizes, including homemade cupcakes, crumble cake, jam tarts and giant marshmallow cakes. One set of cakes had edible animal toppings.

After assembly, Year 5 collected all of the cakes and set them out in their classroom. Firstly, all of Key Stage 2 had the opportunity to come and buy cakes. Then Key Stage 1 bought their cakes. The donations were collected by Charlotte and Morgan. Altogether a total of £131.15 was raised by the school.

During the morning, some of the School Council went with Mrs Sutherland, Head Teacher, to the coffee morning in the village hall. All of the money raised by the school was combined with the village hall (who had been supported by Acle Scout group) and together they had a total of over £400.

“It was a successful morning,” said Olivia. “We all enjoyed ourselves.”
