Live at Mrs M launches in Bishop Auckland with a Food Festival weekend special, featuring two artists performing live on the Saturday and Sunday. Bridge Creative, the organisers behind Live at Mrs M, plan for the event to be a monthly occasion bringing the best in live disco, soul, motown, funk and reggae to the town.

Bridge Creative supports adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults into employment. The organisation plans to provide work experience for the people they support, with opportunities for people to work behind the bar and selling tickets. All proceeds from the gigs will go towards helping more people into work.

First up, performing on Saturday 22nd April is the incredibly talented Claire Angel, a reggae star in her own right who is guaranteed to raise the roof. Fans of Bob Marley can expect some covers in her setlist along with her original material. Claire has performed at some of the biggest reggae festivals in the world across Jamaica, Europe and the US, and has shared the stage with the likes of Estelle, Beverly Knight and Beenie Man.

On Sunday 23rd April, the talented soul singer-songwriter Jack Tyson Charles, son of Radio 2 DJ Craig Charles, will make his North East debut. Likened to John Legend and Marvin Gaye, Jack will perform hits from his new album Love Is Pain that are sure to get you in the mood for a dance.

Mrs M is owned by The Auckland Project and is located in the marketplace in Bishop Auckland between O2 and Sports Direct. Bridge Creative will be running a pop-up bar from Mrs M throughout the weekend where festival visitors can grab a beverage and rest their feet before exploring more of the traders and entertainment in and around the marketplace.

Ben Tinkler, Managing Director of Bridge Creative said, “We’re over the moon to be able to use this great pop-up event space for things like this, enabling us to support the adults we work with to gain real work experience including bar work, customer service and event planning.”

Tickets for both gigs are £8 and will kick off just as the Food Festival begins to wind down each day. Guests are encouraged to grab some food and continue the party into the early evening with some live music. Tickets are available now at www.bridgecreative.org/live-at-mrs-m and any remaining tickets will be available on the day from Mrs M.

Inspired by bars like Newcastle’s Hoochie Coochie and the sounds of Motown Records and Soul Train, the team behind Live at Mrs M hope for the event to become the ultimate feel-good party place for people who love that kind of music.
