Brave Hearts is a North East of England based community interest group founded by Dr Adebola Adisa as a WhatsApp group in May 2018. This was in response to her friends’ request to join her in the Darlington 2018 5K Race for Life. Whilst she felt a huge sense of achievement during her first race in 2017, she thought more could be done to encourage women from ethnic minority backgrounds to join the CRUK cause and run with thousands of other ladies.

The group which has since grown to over 20 members, most of whom participated in the 2019 Darlington 5K Race for Life. The Darlington based Hinds Building Services(HBS) sponsored our branded pink T-shirts for the race.

We are now a registered community interest company; “Brave Hearts North East CIC”

Brave Hearts has held various programmes including a Family Sports Fun Day in July 2019, the Darlington Women’s Health Talk in September 2019, Career talk and launch of our mentorship programme in February 2020, which was attended by the Mayor of Darlington, Mayor Nick Wallis.

We also organised a virtual 5K event in May 2020

Our other activities include; group Sunday morning exercises, in the warmer months of the year at our beautiful South Park; meet ups at different churches, kids’ birthday parties, house parties and BBQs, movies, pick your own vegetables dates, sightseeing events, soft plays and individual playdates.

Our adopted charity is the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust Charity and 100% of funds raised through us, goes to them.

So far, we have raised a total of £299, through our various events.

Brave Hearts is committed to building strong friendships and inspiring our community.
