Aycliffe got off to a bad start against the Northumbria University students when they went behind after 5 minutes. Centre forward Ardelean got ahead of his marker and headed in a cross. Aycliffe had a chance to equalise on 13 minutes but Stuart Banks missed a penalty. Then the students also missed a penalty on 20 minutes when home keeper James Winter saved. The rest of the half was even, albeit the Northumbria team had the better of the chances. Aycliffe took forward Matty Pennal off just before halftime and replaced him with midfielder Sean Tarling. HT 0-1. The students were on top in the second half (due to an insipid Aycliffe performance), and went two up when they went straight through a nonexistent defence. Keeper James Winter brought down a player and was sent off for 2 cautions. Grant Hickman went in goal. The students could have made it three, but hit the bar with five minutes to go. Full-time 0-2. Aycliffe hosted Newcastle Benfield on Tuesday 5th September then travelled to Whickham on Friday 8th September for a Buildbase FA Vase fixture. In a change to the fixture list Aycliffe now visit Washington on Saturday 16th September with North Shields visiting Moore Lane on Tuesday 19th September
