Dear Sir,
Now we are in the New Year may we give readers of Newton News an unpdate on the Foodbank based at St. Clare’s Church Hall.
The past year was very busy with a marked increase in people needing help. Up to December 2013 the Foodbank provided non-perishable food to over 1500 adults and children in this area.
To match the increase in demand there has been an overwhelming response by Newtonians donating food as individuals or by groups collecting food on our behalf.
We must thank Great Aycliffe Town Council, local businesses, stores in the town, schools and churches who have made collections at harvest time and Christmas. Everyone has given generously so that we were able to cope with the demand and have enough food over to keep us going into the new year.
Six tonnes of food was donated locally and the generosity of people in Newton Aycliffe never fails to impress June and I. We are proud to live in this town. However it is important to keep the momentum going as people will still be needing our help for the forseeable future.
We are part of the Durham Christian Partnership and three new Foodbanks have been opened in the County with another two this month.
A big thank you to all our volunteers who gave their time throughout the year, especially at Christmas when they all turned out to help. On behalf of everyone at the Foodbank at St. Clare’s thank you again for your generosity and support.
