Dear Sir,
It is absolutely fantastic news from DCC regarding the proposed expansion of our business park. The economic and social implications for our area will be massive with reduced unemployment, and better opportunities for our residents.
Young people will be able to take their first steps on the housing ladder and look forward to a brighter future. Potentially well paid jobs will result in stronger spending patterns in our town centre leading to investment in retail properties and hopefully make our great town attractive to major retailers.
Massive Housing develop-ments at Copelaw, Eldon Whins, Cobblers Hall together with smaller developments appearing throughout our town will result in Newton Ayclife growing in population and influence within County Durham, but if we are to expand let us scrutinise any development to ensure sufficient green areas are provided with good infrastructure, schools and medical services.
Newton Aycliffe is surrounded by areas of natural beauty with the coast only 40 minutes away, North Yorkshire Moors, Weardale, The Lake District and Northumberland with its rugged countryside and majestic coastline.
Great Cities like Durham, Newcastle and York are just a short distance away. We have a train station which connects us to the main rail network.
We have much to be proud of with community groups springing up all over our town. We only have to scan Newton News each week to see the benefits of being involved in fun days, self-help groups and community centres where anything from New Age Curling to training courses are hosted.
Our town council provide bus trips for the elderly and  a fireworks displays. Hopefully the local airport at Middleton St George will expand to more destinations as the population of the area grows.
See the picture of volunteers working to clear our boating lakes of duckweed algae etc as a great example of how much people love our town and its facilities.
