Another wet lead up to the weekend meant that our Oakleaf pitches were closed over the weekend. Some games were possible at central venue or away grounds.
Washington Wildcats 1 v U11 Wildcats 0
A very close match that had everything, solid tackling, quick counter attacking, superb saves and a fair amount of chances. The game was exciting from start to finish with both teams playing some great football. HT 0-0. Second half the same, with both sides hitting the bar. With a few minutes remaining their striker went through and scored the winning goal.
Newton Aycliffe Juniors 2 v U12 Eagles 2
The second local derby in a week as both teams fight for promotion. The midweek game at home finished 0-0. The Eagles started the stronger of the two teams and managed to go a goal ahead when Harley played a ball out wide for Borys to drive down the wing and smash it into the back of the net. The Juniors then equalised and it was game on. Both teams battled really well and there was some excellent football on show. The Juniors went ahead from an impressive strike. The Eagles continued to work hard as a team, then Evan won the ball in the middle of the park, took a shot from distance which nestled into the back of the net for the equaliser. Both teams continued to have chances but neither could find the winner. MOM: Dylan.
U10 Girls v South Tyneside
After losing 3-0 to ST earlier in the season, the girls knew this would be a tough match. Tyneside were the first to score, however Aycliffe hit back with Poppy B running down the wing and shooting from the middle of their half over the keeper. HT 1-1.
Not long into the second half Tyneside managed to grab the lead. Aycliffe were now pushing hard for a goal but with their keeper saving a lot of our shots it was proving difficult. Fifteen minutes into the second half a penalty was awarded to Aycliffe for a hand ball, Poppy H stepped up, smashing the ball into the top corner. Unfortunately, the girls were not able to get another goal but in the last minute Tyneside managed to get past our defence leaving a 1v1 with goalkeeper, a great save from Daisy kept the score level. FT 2-2. POTM: Daisy, one of her best performances in goal this season, pulling off some hard saves and communicating well with her defence.
Durham United Pumas 5 v U14 Eagles 2
With only 11 players available it was always going to be a tough game but the boys battled so hard and, after initially going 3 goals down in the first half, dug deep to get 2 consolation goals and played some excellent football in the second half. Goals from Kaiden x 2. MOM: Adam.
