Many of our twelve boys teams had a free week as the end of the season approaches, so it was the girls and adults who took centre stage.
Velocity Diamonds 2 v Aycliffe U12 Angels Blue 7
The Angels controlled the game throughout and got the result the performance warranted, but Velocity played some good football and deserved their goals. The game was won with our desire to be first to the ball and press high up the pitch. Two Goals each for Sara, Heidi, and Evie plus a headed goal from Charli.
Players Star: Evie, Coaches Star: Isobel and Erin.
Aycliffe U12 Yellows 0 v Washington United 2
The visitors were stronger in the first half but not many chances were being created. However, the girls conceded when we were unable to clear in our own box and the opposition pounced to lead after twenty minutes. HT 0-1. Aycliffe piled on the pressure forcing numerous corners but they just couldn’t convert any. Then with the last kick of the match we conceded another goal with a shot from a tight angle.
POTM: Courtney.
Hetton Juniors 4 v Aycliffe U11 Girls 3
The game started well as Aycliffe took the lead after ten minutes with a goal from Peyton. However, Hetton equalised before HT 1-1. A disappointing start to the second half saw the home team score three goals in the first fifteen minutes. To their credit the girls kept their heads up, regained composure and went on the attack scoring two goals in the last ten minutes with Lyra and Peyton both finding the back of the net. Players Star: Yasmin. Coaches Star: Hannah.
Aycliffe U18 Girls 2 v Kader 1
Lots of chances were created by the girls, in a game that should have been a lot more comfortable than the score suggests. Two brilliant strikes from outside the box from Olivia in each half, set us on the way to the win, but a converted penalty ensured the girls had to concentrate right to the final whistle.
Adults
Billingham U23s 1 v Aycliffe U23s 4
Yet another cup match against a side who finished second in the league above. From the start of the game, we were on top with some good link up play between the midfield and forwards. A free kick converted by Jack Mortimer was soon followed by Joe Fawcett and we reached HT 0-2. Coby Jones then extended our lead but Billingham grabbed a goal to give them a lift but Coby scores again to take the well deserved win.
Newton Aycliffe Women 1 v Seaham Coast Women 0
The only goal of the game came after four minutes, Meg battling down the right hand side of the box to beat her defender and drove the ball across the face of the goal, Bethany was waiting in the middle to tap home for her first goal for the club. A few chances came and went for both teams but neither team could take them and the game finished 1-0.
