Eaglescliffe 5 v Newton Aycliffe U23’s 5
After only eight minutes Jack Mortimer was brought down when clean through, free kick given but no card. But Jack took the free kick around the wall into the bottom corner.
Then we were hit on the break for Eaglescliffe to equalise, but the lads replied when Jack was set free by some good link up play to finish. Then, as Aycliffe tried to play the ball out, they got caught and Eaglescliffe grabbed a second and again, instead of launching the ball clear, Eaglescliffe won the ball and scored to take the lead. Jake Kielty, in centre midfield, sent Jack away again, to round off his hat trick and take us into HT 3-3.
Start of the second half, Aycliffe gave away a penalty when Declan was adjudged to have fouled their player on the edge of the box, their striker sent Arran Taylor the wrong way. Two minutes later they had a free header from a corner to make it 5-3.
After some nice hold up play by James Hardy, he set Jack away for his fourth of the game. With 10 minutes to go Aycliffe pressure paid off when Jake Kietly popped up in the box to score and make it FT 5-5.
Newton Aycliffe Women 2 v South Moor 3
A frustrating game and the women were unlucky to come away with a defeat. Aycliffe opened the scoring early in the first half, Annabelle floated in a corner for Amber to flick on, Kate was waiting at the back post and volleyed the ball into the roof of the net. Then Aycliffe give away a cheap corner that was poorly defended and the ball fell to the striker who scored. A couple of minutes later and a mistake in the middle of the field gave away possession and the visitors scored.
Then just before half time a bizarre decision resulted in a South Moor penalty which was converted, 1-3 HT.
Aycliffe halved the deficit with a well worked goal, Meg assisting Amber on the edge of the box for Amber to smash home. With time running out Aycliffe threw more players forward but couldn’t find the equaliser, FT 2-3. One of those games, not at our best, decisions went against us and we weren’t clinical in front of goal, but well done to South Moor in what was an even game. POTM: Amber.
