Aycliffe Village Primary and Nursery School have taken part in the Christmas Tree competition held by Durham police.
On 1st December we were visited by many prestigious judges who visited school to judge the Durham Police Christmas Tree competition. The judges included the Mayor and his wife, the Crime Commissioner and Mr and Mrs Claus! Our school council members explained to the judges the theme of each of the decorations on the Christmas tree. Schools had been asked to decorate the tree in the theme of community kindness. Pupils at Aycliffe Village rose to the challenge and each class designed a decoration on the theme of an important element of successful communities. Year 6 pupils Caleb, Ava and Harry wrote a heart-warming poem to summarise the work of the whole school.
Community Kindness Recipe
Serves: Everyone
Caring and tender hands have to prepare the recipe,
One pinch of love,
Make sure you add a dash of kindness,
Mutual respect for all,
Unlimited joyfulness to share,
Never lose hope when in dire need or despair
Include everyone in the making of this,
Teamwork is required in large doses,
You now have community kindness.
Whilst our school did not win first prize, we are proud to say that the fantastic poem will be used for the Crime Commissioners Christmas card this year, of which everyone in school is very proud.
