Jack and Joe Howarth, brothers from Aycliffe Village Chi Taekwondo Club, had great success at the British National Taekwondo Championships in London on September 25th. The event was held at the Copperbox Arena in the London Olympic Village and proved to be a great event with almost 900 competitors attending over 2 days. Jack, age 17, who has an apprenticeship at Gestamp Tallent, entered two categories and after 3 tough fights became British Champion in 78kg Juniors, winning gold. He also fought in under 80kg Seniors, which was his first Senior competition and came away with bronze after having two great fights. Joe, age 13, who attends Woodham Academy, also had 3 tough fights and won bronze. His second fight of the day being the most memorable as he beat a boy who had represented GB in the European Cadet Championships in Romania two weeks ago. The Aycliffe team was one of the smallest with only 16 people competing and they came away with 13 medals in total, which was a great achievement.
