Newtonian Elizabeth Rose Clay enjoyed a prestigious awards ceremony at Gateshead Stadium on Monday 3rd October. Celebrating the achievements of athletes who have competed in the 6 meets of the NEGP (North East Grand Prix). Elizabeth’s first year out in the U15 age category, came out storming in the first heat pulling out PB’s in both 100m and 200m. Alongside competing in other events, with air cadets and the other outdoor season events, Elizabeth went on to break a Darlington Harrier record in the 150m U15 girls. Not long after the first NEGP meet Elizabeth got injured whilst competing for her school, generally she thought her season was over. However, through her steely determination she entered into new waters. Trying out new disciplines and competing in other events, Elizabeth kept in the running and points she needed to receive an award. Elizabeth finished in U15 girls third place, a fantastic achievement. Elizabeth would like to thank her coaches from Darlington Harriers and Aycliffe Junior Running and Athletics Club for all their hard work and encouragement throughout the season. Elizabeth will now start the indoor season in November, we wish her the best of luck.
