Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, were comfortably beaten by five wickets away at top of the table Rockliffe Park 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. Aycliffe elected to bat first and struggled to get any momentum in their innings and were restricted to a below par 165 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Sean Morgan top scored with a late order unbeaten 26 off 53 balls and other contributions came from Adam Gittins (24 off 68 balls) and James Layfield-Carroll (23 off 28 balls). In reply, the homeside romped to victory after just 31.1 overs despite some good bowling from Layfield-Carroll (2 for 38) and both Sean Morgan and Luke Telford, who had identical figures of 1 for 25.
The u17’s lost by ten wickets at home to Darlington in the NYSD Junior league. Aycliffe batted first and were bowled out for just 77 after 18.3 overs with Ramzan Hussain (18 off 13 balls), Matty Greaves (12 off 11 balls) and Leon Patel (10 off 34 balls) the only players to reach double figures. The visitors quickly reached their winning target without loss after 11.5 overs.
The u15’s lost at home by 48 runs to second in the table Richmond in the NYACC league. The visitors chose to bat first and scored 130 for 5 from their 20 overs with Joe Ingman, the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers, taking 3 for 23 from his 3 overs. In reply, only Dan Heaton (26 from 33 balls) and Tom Dearden (23 from 40 balls) managed double figures as Aycliffe were restricted to 82 for 6 from their 20 overs.
The u13’s lost by 44 runs away at Sedgefield in the NYACC league. The homeside chose to bat first and scored 115 for 4 in their 20 overs with Joey Hayman, the most successful bowler, taking 2 for 8 from 3 overs for Aycliffe. In reply, Luca Randall (15 runs) and Trent Telford (10 runs) batted well as Aycliffe were restricted to 71 for 8 from their 20 overs.
The u11’s lost by 92 runs away at title hopefuls Sedgefield in the NYACC league but there were some encouraging individual performance with the bat by both Joey Hayman (22 off 13 balls) and Phoebe Sproat (9 not out off 11 balls).
On Monday 4th July, for the second consecutive year, Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club were delighted to be asked to host the annual Durham County v Yorkshire County u11’s girls match. The game is scheduled to start at 11am, entry is free, refreshments are available throughout the day and all cricket fans are welcome to attend.
