Three members of Aycliffe Running Club travelled the 80 miles to Pocklington on the 24th of February for the annual Snake Lane 10 mile race. Conditions were dry but cold as the runners set off on the scenic and very popular race. First home for the club was Alex Lineton, who failed to wear his club colours, in a time of 1:12:19 followed by John Young in 1:24:21 and club Chairman Dave McKenzie in 1:30:45.

Aycliffe was also represented at the National Cross-Country meeting held at Herrington Country Park. Snow had fallen overnight and then thawed slightly, leaving the course with thick slimy mud which made it extremely tough going. The senior ladies managed to get a team together, and were not overawed by the fact that for most it was their first appearance in the “Nationals”, and finished a commendable 46th overall. They were led home by Susan Milburn 301st in 45:11, followed by Wendy Bake 347th in 47:39. Other times were; Shelley McCormack 365th in 49:32, Penny Johnson 375th in 50:28 and Tracy Warrior 404th in 54:00.

In the Senior Men’s race Lee Wren was first home for the club 573rd in 56:17 followed by Martin Knox 709th in 60:38. Other finishers were; Peter Milburn 861st in 64:42, Colin Gibson, who beat a rival for the first time in 3 years, 934th in 67:37 and Kevin Greenall 976th in 70:26.
