Its been a very busy time at Athena Sports Academy, with moving into their very own Gym in the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre last month. This will enable the club to offer better facilities to its current gymnasts and also to offer the chance for children in the area to take up the sport as the club announce new sessions for new comers of all ages from its new mother and toddler sessions to its Recreation sessions for ages 3 and above, and of course its Disabilities Group. The club is also about to announce details of a new Adult Gym which they are looking to start in the coming months.
The last couple of months the club have been training for the Deerness Floor Championships in Durham, with over 50 gymnasts from the club making the trip to Durham to take part in the competition. These floor championships have always been noted as a friendly competition which gives the gymnasts a chance to compete in a regional competition, and in a manner that allows them experience as many of the gymnasts compete for the first time. The gymnasts have been training hard for this competition and all the gymnasts who took part did their parents, coaches and of course the club proud with some marvellous performances. The club gymnasts gained 15 Gold Medals, 12 Silver and 4 Bronze during the full day event against clubs from all over the North East.
The club still has places available within the Rec Classes that they are currently running, so if you interested in any of these classes and want more information please email Athena at athenasportsacademy@gmail.com or visit our website www.athenasportacademy.co.uk.
