Local Resident Anita Sparrow is standing in the Byerley Park, Horndale and Cobblers Hall town council by-election.
Anita is standing for the Liberal Democrats as she sees them as the only ones making a positive difference in Newton Aycliffe. This includes proposing savings on the town council and improving road safety near schools like Byerley Park and Greenfield.
Grandmother Anita comments, “Both locally on the town council and at County Hall the Liberal Democrats concentrate on improving things for residents in Newton Aycliffe. This is why I want to be a town councillor – to help make our area the best place in the county to live.”
Anita adds, “As an experienced care worker I know only too well how recent years have been difficult for people, both emotionally and financially. If I’m elected I will also work with the Lib Dem team to continue to push for a more efficient and effective town council.
“It’s not right that we pay so much more council tax than elsewhere in the County for so few additional services. This particularly impacts on our older residents.
“The work being done, thanks to the Lib Dems in the area, to make sure it is clean tidy is particularly important to me. As a dog lover I hate to see dog fouling and as a town councillor I will be proactive in reporting and pushing for action on littering, dog fouling and keeping our area clean.”
Town Councillor Jo Jones, says, “Anita will be a great town councillor and help us both work with and challenge both the Labour and Independent councillors to work harder to fix our town council. The town council costs us a fortune: more than almost anywhere else in County Durham and we need it to run much better.”
Liberal Democrat County Councillors Michael Stead and Nev Jones agree, “Having Anita working in our community will allow us to be even more effective in listening to concerns and addressing them. She has our full support and we urge residents in Byerley Park, Horndale and Cobblers Hall to vote for Anita in their droves.”
The by-election takes place on Thursday 4th May. Residents are reminded that this is the first election in the area where new rules apply and anyone voting in a polling station will have to show photo ID like a driving licence or passport. Postal votes are arriving in the coming days but if you don’t get chance to return them you can also drop them into the polling station on 4th May between 7am and 10pm.
The polling stations for the Byerley Park, Horndale and Cobblers Hall By-Election are the Aycliffe Evangelical Church on Ladybower and the Scout Hut on Bluebell Way.
