ACORN Community Association rounded off the weekend with a coach trip to Whitby for the Goth weekend, a coach full of people left Newton Aycliffe for a bracing visit to the popular seaside town which was enhanced by the residents and visitors dressed to impress.
Whether the attraction is the ruined abbey, a trip on a boat, shopping in an array of small shops or merely a portion of fish and chips, Whitby offers something for everyone although Count Dracula was nowhere to be seen.
The popular trips are part supported by the National Lottery and are always well received by those who partake. Our next adventure is to Ripon, in the morning, followed by a visit to Masham and we are now taking reservations for this trip which will take place on the 7th of May. We aim to have little adventures and events throughout the year with the next event being a Jubilee party to be held on June 3rd featuring a pie and pea supper from Walkers Butchers at Simpasture, a disco for those with twitchy toes, a lovely female Vocal Artist, Bingo, and a free raffle all for the princely sum of £2, seats are going fast so get your tickets soon.
Why not come along to our meetings at the Phoenix Club (formally British Legion) from 6pm to help us plan future trips and events, everyone is welcome and we even have a children’s group who meet at 5.30pm.
The ACORN group have been operating in Newton Aycliffe for 10 years with the aim of solving local problems whilst having a lot of fun. The meetings are attended by Town and County Councillors who are happy to give advice and we regularly have guest speakers to inform and entertain.
