Megan Holland, a music degree student at New College Durham, has made it to the finals of the national Soundwaves Music Competition taking place at the O2 Institute in Birmingham next May.
The Soundwaves Competition is open to all genres and solo acts and groups of different sizes. The main aim is to find the nations best talent and provide them with an unforgettable multinational platform to gain invaluable exposure.
Megan, or known as her stage name SheWayOut, is studying music at a degree level and is currently on her second year of learning. She is from Newton Aycliffe and hopes to make her mark on the world. She takes her inspiration from indie music such as The Night Café, Feverdream and Bombay Bicycle Club.
Megan has lived in Newton Aycliffe all her life along with all her family who all show great support with her music. Megan attended Sugar Hill Primary School, Greenfield and UTC. She has her own home studio, so a lot of her inspiration comes from looking out the window and seeing how the weather is affecting the town and the trees and the park she live next to, helping to set the mood for inspiration.
Megan said “It is great living here, there’s so much countryside to inspire me. I visit the Iron Horse with my friends and they always try and make me get up on the karaoke, so far they have succeeded once!”
SheWayOut successfully made it through the first three stages of the competition: an audio clip, a face-to-face gig with other acts who made it through and submitting two pre-recorded videos of two songs to be judged.
