The MAD Productions Variety Show held at the Xcel Centre this week was magnificent with superb, singing and dancing, giving the large audience an excellent night of entertainment.

The group of youngsters who meet each Wednesday at the Youth Centre have been in existence for 14 years and have presented their annual Show, courtesy of the Xcel Centre, for the last 4 years.

The choir and soloists from Xcel Church supported the group with classy performances worthy of the professional stage. Local PC Alan Thompson (saxophonist) with “Jazz Tones” also appeared.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Val Raw and Barbara Clare were in attendance and were much impressed by the quality of the Show organised in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.

The proceeds of the night, £1,275 were presented to Diane Walker from the charity who said how vital the money was to keep the helicopters flying and saving lives.

The three individual solo performances from the Xcel Church were outstanding and as the compere Phil Walker said “Better than X Factor”.

The show was based on songs from musicals including ‘Annie’, ‘Porgy & Bess’, ‘Carousel’ and ‘Mama Mia’. The youngsters from MAD Productions can take great pride in their efforts and those of their mentors as they go into reheasals for the next event. Call in at the Youth Centre if you want to join them.
