Following on from the recent fantastic experience of the gathering of “Mallard” and her 5 surviving sisters at Locomotion Shildon the next event for railway enthusiasts in Newton Aycliffe is the fifth annual Model Railway Exhibition organised by the town’s Rotary Club on 5th April 2014, from 10am to 5pm at the Youth Centre, Burn Lane.
A wide range of over 15 working model railway layouts will be on display in scales from “N” to live steam “G” based on a variety of prototypes from European to narrow gauge and including Thomas and Friends along with one of the largest working LEGO layouts in the North of England. Some of the layouts will be travelling considerable distances to attend the event which is now firmly established as one of the most exciting on the model railway calendar.
There will be a variety of trade stands selling new and used products along with pictures and die-cast models.
A café will be open all day, serving hot and cold drinks, fantastic bacon butties, sandwiches, crisps etc. There will be a raffle, with a train set donated by Hornby as first prize, and a tombola.
The Rotary Club are grateful for the support from local railway engineering company SabreRail as well as Hornby Trains and Barclays Bank, Newton Aycliffe.
The proceeds from the event are to be donated to the Heel and Toe Charity caring for children with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities throughout County Durham and Darlington.
Entry is £4 for adults, £3 for concessions, £8 for families and 50p for children. Wheelchair users are free.
Free parking will be available at St Mary and St Joseph RC Church just 100 metres from the event and easy access is available for wheelchair users. For further details contact John Burrows on 07870-210269
