Even though Triskaideka-phobia isn’t a noun I drop this into conversation as the new 13 registration plate has ammused some of the motoring press and you can see why. From March to August 2013, new vehicles will carry (the unlucky for some) 13 registration plate.

With many superstitions surrounding the number or ‘Triskaidekaphobia’ there’s already expected to be a significant drop in new car sales, with many motorists prefering to wait until August and the ’63’ registration.

Many franchise dealers are already questioning the negative effects on new car sales with buyers avoiding any bad luck connected with the new number. Only time will tell.

Word was the DVLA were planning to offer car buyers the chance to avoid the 13 registation with a window to revert back to a 62 plate however, this could see some motorists lose money when they come to sell their car as the vehicle will appear older than they really are – it now seems DVLA will stick with the norm.

One positive to be taken from the new ’13’ reg is the opportunity to make a private plate with the letter ‘B’. RO13ERT (Robert), the possibilities are endless.

Safe motoring
