Dear Sir,
When I first came to Newton Aycliffe in 1965 I was told that for each house built there must be X amount of green space and a tree.
I was told those trees were planted by the children from Sugar Hill Primary School who then did a project on their tree.
I once met a lady, a few years ago, who came to Gilpin Road to see the tree she planted in 1952 when she was a pupil at Sugar Hill School.
We used to have a nice pub at the top of our street but they demolished it and squeezed a housing estate in its place and the contractors and their employees used the nearby green as a parking bay.
Lord Beveridge must be turning in his grave. The Newton Aycliffe plan was supposed to keep our green spaces and preserve the Town Character.
Representatives of the local residents association should be part of the Local Planning Committees.
Yours
Mr Christopher Palmer
