Aycliffe runners attended the Sedgefield Serpentine 10K trail race on Sunday 17 September. The race took runners across footpaths, fields, farm tracks, trails and across the golf course. The ground was extremely muddy in places and there were many trip hazards, low hanging branches and golf buggies to be aware of.
First back for Aycliffe and in 10th position was Dez Fielden in 41:41, followed by Robert Young 50:11, Dave Blewitt 52:03, John Heywood 53:14, Trish Kay 58:59, Katie Gedling 60:14, Judith Porter 62:21 and Mandy Heywood 67:15.
Four Aycliffe Runners turned out for the Wynyard Hall 10K on Sunday 24 September. It was a tough undulating course with two big climbs.
First home for the club and in 11th position overall was Peter Milburn in 42.00, placing him in 1st in his category of male over 50. Next came Dave Blewitt, 33rd overall in 46.59. First female home was Sue Milburn who was 76th overall in 52.42; followed by Martha McBarron, placing 92nd in 54.30 and 1st female over 60.
The first event in the Stockton Winter Trail series was held at Preston Park. It was a fine, sunny October morning.
First home for the club was Peter Milburn, 12th overall in 20:09 and 1st in his category of male over 55. He was followed by Alan Wilks, 35th overall in 22:27 and 1st in his category of male over 65. Next to cross the line was Michelle Zamir, 36th in 22:28; followed by Richard Holland, 41st in 23:08 and Cyd Denise, 45th in 23:37. Next finisher was John Burnside, 46th in 23:38 and 1st in his category of male over 60, followed Jane Burnside, 119th in 30:56 and 1st in her category of female over 60. Next finisher was Susan Clark, 127th in 31:47 and last but not least Eve Doe, 134th in 33:55.
Members of Aycliffe Running Club also made the journey to Kielder on Sunday 8 October for the annual half marathon and marathon events, described to be the most beautiful in the country. Conditions were perfect for running on the off road, hilly, but very scenic courses.
First to finish in the marathon for Aycliffe Running Club was Rob Nicholson in 3:57:08 and 1st male over 60. He was followed by Martyn Knox in 4:03:02, Julie Nisbet 4:55:41 and John Heywood 4:56:02.
First to finish the half marathon for Aycliffe Running Club was Trish Kay in 1:53:26 and 1st F50, followed by Andrew Lumley 1:56:57 and Mandy Heywood 2:15:35.
